It produces a very heavy, dense board — a full 3/4" thick — that handles and finishes like real lumber but with near-zero expansion and no rot. It's the most substantial cladding we install, ideal where you want that solid lumber feel without wood's maintenance.
Both are rot-proof and low-maintenance, but composite and poly-ash boards like TruExterior are denser and heavier, with the closest feel to real lumber and excellent dimensional stability. Cellular PVC is lighter and excels at seamless, caulk-free joints and high wind ratings. We'll match the right one to your design and budget.
Poly-ash like Westlake TruExterior is unusually suited to it — it's rated for ground-contact and wet, high-moisture applications, so it tolerates splash-back, damp soil, and standing humidity on low Hampton Roads lots far better than wood or engineered wood, which should be kept up off grade. That doesn't replace good practice: we still manage drainage, hold a clearance where the design allows, and flash every transition. But where a design wants siding or trim to run low near grade in a damp coastal setting, poly-ash is the board built to take it, and its near-zero movement keeps those long runs tight.
